Song Lyric Sunday 5 July • Good Vibrations. This week, Jim Adam’s prompt is Best/Better/Good/Great.
A brilliant song by Brian Wilson (music) and Mike Love of the Beach Boys.
Here are the lyrics:
I, I love the colorful clothes she wears And the way the sunlight plays upon her hair I hear the sound of a gentle word On the wind that lifts her perfume through the air I'm pickin' up good vibrations She's giving me excitations I'm pickin' up good vibrations (oom bop, bop, good vibrations) She's giving me excitations (oom bop, bop, excitations) Good good good good vibrations (oom bop, bop) She's giving me excitations (oom bop, bop, excitations) Good good good good vibrations (oom bop, bop) She's giving me excitations (oom bop, bop, excitations) Close my eyes She's somehow closer now Softly smile, I know she must be kind When I look in her eyes She goes with me to a blossom world I'm pickin' up good vibrations She's giving me excitations I'm pickin' up good vibrations (oom bop, bop, good vibrations) She's giving me excitations (oom bop, bop, excitations) Good good good good vibrations (oom bop, bop) She's giving me excitations (oom bop, bop, excitations) Good good good good vibrations (oom bop, bop) She's giving me excitations (oom bop, bop, excitations) (Ah) (Ah my my what elation) I don't know where but she sends me there (Ah my, my, what a sensation) (Ah my, my, what elations) (Ah my, my, what) Gotta keep those lovin' good vibrations A happenin' with her Gotta keep those lovin' good vibrations A happenin' with her Gotta keep those lovin' good vibrations A happenin' Ah Good good good good vibrations (oom bop, bop) She's giving me excitations (oom bop, bop, excitations) Good good good good vibrations (oom bop, bop) She's na, na Na, na, na, na, na Na, na, na Na, na, na, na, na Na, na, na Do, do, do, do, do Do, do, do Do, do, do, do, do Do, do, do
And here’s a blurb about its origin…
“Good Vibrations” is a song composed by Brian Wilson with lyrics by Mike Love for the American rock band the Beach Boys, of which both were members. Released on October 10, 1966, the single was an immediate critical and commercial hit, topping record charts in several countries including the US and UK. Characterized by its complex soundscapes, episodic structure and subversions of pop music formula, it was the costliest single ever recorded at the time of its release. “Good Vibrations” later became widely acclaimed as one of the finest and most important works of the rock era. Also produced by Wilson, the title derived from his fascination with cosmic vibrations, as his mother would tell him as a child that dogs sometimes bark at people in response to their “bad vibrations”. He used the concept to suggest extrasensory perception, while Love’s lyrics were inspired by the nascent Flower Power movement. It was written as it was recorded and in a similar fashion to other compositions from Wilson’s Smile period. The song was issued as a standalone single backed with the Pet Sounds instrumental “Let’s Go Away for Awhile”. “Good Vibrations” was to be included on Smile before the project’s collapse and instead appeared on the substitute LP Smiley Smile (1967).

Yeah, this song was a little risque for the time, but The Beach Boys still pulled it off! 🙂
I love this song and it belongs here today on Song Lyric Sunday. thanks for sharing this classic Tiong Han.
Perfect for the prompt! Thanks for sharing.
Yay! Someone picked it! Thanks for doing so.
Forgot about this one! Excellent choice! 🙂
Brian Wilson is a musical genius. I remember listening to some of those sound effects at the time and thinking nobody else is even close to this. Good choice for the prompt!
A genius he certainly was!
